Shrimply the Best: Top 3 Shrimp Dumpling Spots We Tried This Month in Calgary!

Hey Wanderers!

If there’s one thing Adi and I love, it’s exploring Calgary’s food scene. This month, we decided to hunt down the best shrimp dumplings (aka har gow) in the city—and it was extra special because it was Adi’s first time trying them! Here’s a roundup of the top three spots we hit, complete with our honest takes on taste, service, and overall vibe.

Top 3 shrimp dumplings in Calgary

1. Chinese Cultural Centre – $7

📍 197 1 St SW, Calgary, AB

Our first stop was tucked away in the basement food court of the Chinese Cultural Centre, and while the service was slow and the food took a while (no complimentary tea, folks!), the dumplings really delivered. They were generously stuffed with plump shrimp and packed with flavour. For $7, it’s a steal.. 7/10

2. Silver Dragon Restaurant – $8.75

📍 106 3 Ave SE, Calgary, AB

This iconic spot in Chinatown is known for its traditional dim sum experience, and while the service was impeccable (super fast and friendly), the dumplings themselves fell a little short for us. They were smaller than expected and lacked the wow factor. Still, the quick service and classic vibes made it worth a try. 6/10

3. U & Me Restaurant – $7.25

📍 233 Centre St S Unit201, Calgary, AB

And the winner is… U & Me Restaurant! 🏆 This spot struck the perfect balance of size, cost, and flavour. The dumplings were plump, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. At $7.25, it’s affordable without skimping on quality, and the service was friendly and efficient. If you’re craving shrimp dumplings, this is the spot to hit. 8/10

Our Takeaway: Each spot had its highlights, but U & Me takes the crown this month for its consistent quality and value. Whether you’re a dim sum connoisseur or trying har gow for the first time, Calgary’s Chinatown offers some seriously great options.
