How to Save at Stampede!
Costco Stampede Bucks
If you're looking for the best way to enjoy the Calgary Stampede without breaking the bank, we've got a hot tip for you: Stampede Bucks are back at Costco—and they’re the ultimate Stampede savings hack.
What Are Stampede Bucks?
Stampede Bucks are basically bonus cash you can use throughout Stampede Park. For just $39.99, you’ll get $50 worth of Stampede Bucks—that’s a 20% discount right off the bat. It’s a no-brainer if you're planning to hit the grounds at all this July.
Where Can You Use Them?
These bucks aren’t just for show—here’s where you can spend them:
Park admission
Rodeo and Evening Show tickets
Midway rides and games
Food vendors
Alcoholic beverages
Whether you’re going for the rodeo, indulging in deep-fried everything, or just wandering the grounds with a drink in hand, Stampede Bucks have you covered.
Where to Get Them
You can grab your Stampede Bucks at Costco locations across Calgary, but don’t wait too long—they sell out quickly every year. It’s one of the easiest ways to stretch your budget and make the most of your Stampede experience.
Free Things at Stampede
It’s that magical time of year again—Stampede season! And while there’s a lot to spend money on (hello mini donuts and midway rides), there’s also a surprising number of completely free events and experiences you can take advantage of. Whether you're on a budget or just love a good freebie, here's your go-to guide for all the free fun at the Calgary Stampede this year:
Stampede Parade
Since 1912, the Stampede Parade has kicked off the festivities—and this year, it's going to be extra iconic with Shania Twain leading the way. Don't miss this legendary event happening downtown on the morning of Friday, July 4!
Parade-to-Park (Friday, July 4)
Right after the parade, enjoy free admission to Stampede Park from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. It’s the perfect chance to explore the grounds without spending a dime.
Tim Hortons Family Day (Sunday, July 6)
Early birds get the freebies! Admission is free until 11 a.m., and there’s a free pancake breakfast served in the GMC Stadium Courtyard from 8–10 a.m. (while quantities last).
Citywide Free Pancake Breakfasts
Stampede means flapjacks everywhere. From community associations to local businesses, there are tons of free pancake breakfasts across the city. Keep an eye on our full Pancake Breakfast Guide for all the listings.
Nightly Fireworks
No Stampede night is complete without fireworks! They light up the sky every single night of the festival. Some of the best free viewing spots:
Scotsman Hill
Tom Campbell’s Hill
RiverWalk
TC Energy Community Day (Tuesday, July 8)
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., everyone gets free admission to the grounds! Plus, Seniors (65+) and Military Veterans get free entry and treats all day long. It’s a great day for family outings and multi-generational fun.
Ways to Save
1. Buy Combo Tickets
If you’re planning to check out the Rodeo or the Evening Show, purchasing a combo ticket is a great way to save. Your admission to Stampede Park is included in the price of those event tickets, saving you up to $23 per person. That’s more cash to spend on mini donuts (or save for your next summer adventure).
2. Visit on Value Days
Stampede offers special Value Days with free or reduced admission. Sneak-a-Peek night is usually the Thursday before official opening and has discounted entry. Kids’ Day and Western Heritage Day offer early morning deals that make it easy to bring the whole family without the steep ticket prices.
3. Bring Your Own Snacks
While the food vendors are iconic, they can get pricey. Save money by packing your own snacks and water—just be discreet and double-check park guidelines. You’ll avoid long lines and keep your energy up for those all-day Stampede strolls.
4. Take Transit
Ditch the parking fees (and the stress) by hopping on the CTrain. Calgary Transit runs extended hours during the Stampede, and both the Red and Blue lines drop you right outside the gates. It’s cheaper, faster, and lets you enjoy that extra drink responsibly.
5. Enjoy the Free Attractions
Not everything at the Stampede costs extra. From daily dog shows and acrobatic performances to agriculture exhibits and live music at Nashville North, there’s no shortage of entertainment included with general admission. Keep your eyes open—some of the best moments don’t cost a dime.

Last-Minute Prep Advice
1. Break In Your Boots
New boots? Wear them around the house or on short walks to break them in before the Stampede. Your feet will thank you after a day on the grounds.
2. Pack a Day Bag
Throw together a lightweight backpack with sunscreen, a refillable water bottle, wet wipes, hand sanitizer, and a portable charger. You’ll be ready for anything.
3. Download the Stampede App
The official Calgary Stampede app helps you plan your day, find schedules, maps, and real-time updates. It’s a lifesaver once you’re inside the park.
4. Dress for the Weather
Check the forecast and plan for all conditions—Stampede weather can flip fast. Bring a hat, light layers, and a rain poncho just in case.
5. Budget Before You Go
Set a spending limit for food, rides, and shopping. It’s easy to get carried away, but a bit of planning keeps your wallet (and future self) happy.
