Calgary Nagar Kirtan 2025
This Saturday, May 10, 2025, Calgary will host the annual Nagar Kirtan, a vibrant Sikh parade celebrating Vaisakhi—the birth of the Khalsa. Organized by the Dashmesh Culture Centre, this free, family-friendly event invites everyone to experience Sikh culture through music, community service, and spiritual reflection.

What to Expect
The day begins at 9:30 a.m. with an address by Mayor Jyoti Gondek at the Dashmesh Culture Centre (135 Gurdwara Sahib Blvd NE). A prayer follows at 9:50 a.m., leading into the Nagar Kirtan procession at 10:00 a.m. Led by the Panj Pyare (Five Beloved Ones), the parade features devotional hymns, colorful floats, and traditional Gatka martial arts demonstrations. The procession concludes at Prairie Winds Park around 2:30 p.m., where festivities continue until 5:00 p.m. with live performances, vendor tents, and complimentary vegetarian meals (Langar) for all attendees.
Getting There
To accommodate attendees, Calgary Transit offers free charter buses from various neighborhoods, including Coral Springs, Cornerstone, and Skyview Ranch. Attendees are encouraged to use public transit, as road closures will be in effect along the parade route from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
